Forthcoming

Stuff we've finished recording but which hasn't yet been released. Anything with a strike mark through it indicates that I've given up hope that it will ever see the light of day.

remix Tore H Bøe's Serum (comp)
When I met Tore (Norway) in NYC at the show we both played in March, he gave me a copy of his 10", Serum and asked me to remix it for a compilation he wanted to release. The record is very minimal with just a few drones and small noises occuring one at a time occasionally throughout the 30 minutes. And there is supposed to be no jacket or other protection on it - it's subtitled "postal system scratch dj version". He normally mails them bare, with stamps and address right on the label. But for remix purposes he gave me one in a paper sleeve. I quickly lost my copy. Luckily I got a replacement from nice person in the UK, but with it's two trips through the post it has plenty of noise on it. Somehow, I came up with a piece I'm really happy with, and I did it in just one day, including a thorough listening to and recording of the source. Might call it "Spore" and will probably put it on my next CD as well.
Noise Conglomerate, vol. 5 (comp)
Another compilation CD of short tracks, this one in the 42-second size so as to fit 99 tracks on the disc. We submitted and extended remix of "Grubs" (originally a 30-second track earmarked for the dead Jonas Blank 7" comp listed below). [Anti-Everything]
War Between the States (comp)
Somebody's putting together a compilation that will attempt to compile a 1-minute track from an artist in each of the 50 United States. Good luck! We sent a representative for Connecticut, which happens to be an excerpt of some solo feedback improv.
Aegri Somni Vana field recordings (comp)
A CD or 2CD compilation of all field recordings. We submitted two for possible inclusion; one recorded in the rain, the other near Route 46 in NJ.
Einstürzende Neubauten tribute (comp)
We covered "Der Töd ist ein Dandy". The word is that Verbrannte Erde, the label compiling this tribute is probably stopping all activities.
freedom from... loud (comp)
The Brutum Fulmen track submitted was "The Lurking Fear". Originally to be a cassette release, this project is being overhauled for CD. Lineup includes: John Hudak, MSBR, tac, Mlehst, Alan Licht, Idea Fire Company, Emil Hagstrom, lots more. Well, it sounded good to me, but this has been on hold so long, I'm assuming it's dead. [freedom from...]
Kip Kinkle tribute (comp)
Compilation CD dedicated to the high school gunman. Unfortunately for this comp, Columbine happened about a year (or more?) after Kip and completely overshadowed him to the point that as far as I know, everyone's forgotten this earlier shooter. But I heard from the label and they've cancelled the comp anyway due to lack of decent submissions. [Menschenfiend].
Jonas Blank 30-second (comp)
One-sided compilation 7" of a dozen 30 second tracks. Brutum Fulmen track: "Grubs". [Jonas Blank].
Humiliation (comp)
Two Brutum Fulmen tracks on this compilation LP from folks in Cock ESP. No date.
Abort the Soul (comp)
2xC60 tape compilation with Brutum Fulmen track "Missing A-B". [World Made Flesh].
Kafka tribute (comp)
CD compilation of material based on the works of Frans Kafka. The Brutum Fulmen track "The Apparatus" is inspired by the short story "In the Penal Colony".

In the Works

A few things we're in the process of recording, or just thinking about. We are usually very busy with projects (mainly because I'm slow, not because I have THAT many projects), but if you are interested in releasing Brutum Fulmen on vinyl or CD, let me know.

C. Reider remix
Working on a remix track for something like C. Reider's 20th anniversary of experimental music making. He's going to compile a tribute to himself with remixes from a bunch of other folks. Good idea!
tape/mini-cd for Banned Production
I promised something a while back. Forget if he was going to release it on cassette or mini-cdrs. Anyway, I had a PC crash last fall. Lost a lot of data and fried either the motherboard or CPU or something. Built new PC over Christmas, and am finally getting back to recording, and will hopefully be able to pull together some decent new material! Have been thinking of a set of recordings themed around either a single season, or one of the traditional "elements" (fire, water, earth, etc.)
tape of Throne Heap
I also promised another tape to Throne Heap, who released 1000 Suns. At one point, I was thinking of largely re-recording that (using new vocal parts, etc) for Banned or someone, but it's even harder to get motivated to rework old material. Another idea I've been thinking about is doing a Brutum Fulmen take on black metal. Ever hear the French band Spektr? I like some of that stuff.
Tapegerm sound library
I stumbled onto the Tapegerm site, run by guys from the old Gajoob cassette culture zine. The create and collect loops and samples of sound and then remix it. I wanted to make a library for them from all my Brutum Fulmen source material, and actually got a good way through the work. Just need to wrap that up and see if they still want it!
RRRecycled
If RRRecords is still doing their Recycled cassette series, I actually came up with a conceptual piece that would make sense to release there. I actually recorded the thing already, but am not all that happy with the result, so would need to redo it. Again, it's even harder to get excited about reworking something again than doing something new.
Framework field recordings
An ongoing project to collect field recordings with the phrase "welcome to Framework" spoken in the midst of it.
Char
Yeah it's not like it hasn't been done before, but I am thinking of doing a release based only on the sounds of fire. It will probably be a short release, maybe suitable for a 3" CD or shaped CD. I've been experimenting with burning and melting CDs, thinking a small run could be done by hand, but so far the results have been unplayable.
live CD
At some point I'd like to release our best live recordings. Since we rarely play live this could take a while, especially now that I've just released some of the best live recordsings on Massachusettes and New England. But I'm also thinking a good option would be a "live in the studio" versions of our current set.
The Story of Two Men...
I may have an opportunity to release a very special work combining a book and a CD. Several years ago I wrote/created a 52 page xeroxed short story & art book entitled The Story of Two Men.... It was quite well received at the time, and I always thought about one day "doing it right" - reworking the art for a full color, high quality print job. And I also thought it might be nice to include a CD of abstract music inspired by it. Now it looks like this opportunity may be coming. The working title for the CD (though no recording will probably be done for a while still) is Rainbow Like an Oil Slick. Though I'm not particularly interested in using violent imagery for my music, this would be an exeption as the book is a violent katharsis.
oddities
I'm beginning to amass a good amount of decent quality unreleased tracks and compilation-only tracks. Once Brutum Fulmen becomes a household name, I figure I'll want to scrape all this stuff together and give it a proper presentation on a nice CD. This would be good quality material but which I did not use on an album for one of these reasons: it has several sounds in common with an album track, it is out of character (our cover of E. Neubauten's "Der Töd Ist ein Dandy", complete with vocals), or I just never found a place for it on an album. But stuff with bad sound will just have to stay unreleased.
collaborations
I am thinking of asking a number of different people I've worked with (or not) to collaborate on some short projects, if I think I can get somebody to release them on 7" or 10" vinyl or 3" CD or 5" shaped CD or other interesting format.
